In a major revenue recovery drive, the Doiwala Municipality in Uttarakhand has issued a tax notice of ₹6.40 crore to Dehradun’s Jolly Grant Airport for pending building and service taxes.
This move is part of a broader crackdown on unregistered or under-assessed commercial properties in the area.
Municipal Executive Officer Uttam Singh Negi confirmed that more than 35 notices have been issued so far to various commercial institutions, including private hospitals, hotels, banks, and prominent schools like Delhi Public School, Mount Litera Zee School, and Presidency School, reported Jagran News.
These properties were either not marked as commercial or had not been properly taxed. The municipality has begun assessing properties based on current circle rates and on-site construction, and a 0.5% tax is being levied, Negi said.
Institutions that disagree with the assessed tax amount can register objections, following which a final figure will be determined. So far, around seven establishments have started paying the tax, contributing an estimated ₹14 lakh annually to the municipality’s income, the report added.
The airport management has stated it will consult its legal team before responding to the notice.
Negi added that the funds collected through this tax drive will be used for local development projects. The move signals a tightening of enforcement as the municipality seeks to widen its revenue base and ensure compliance among large commercial entities.
