In a high-tech crackdown on land encroachment, the Uttarakhand government has used Artificial Intelligence and satellite surveillance to detect and demolish 188 illegal occupations of government land in just six months, with Dehradun reporting the most violations.
The initiative, powered by the Uttarakhand Government Asset Management System (UKGAMS), leverages 50 cm high-resolution satellite imagery and AI to track unauthorized construction on public property, reported Amar Ujala.
The system, developed under the guidance of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, has made it nearly impossible for illegal occupants to go unnoticed.
Whenever encroachment is detected, AI sends real-time alerts to government teams — complete with geolocation data. Officials then visit the site, verify the violation, and take immediate action.
Dehradun Sees Most Cases
Dehradun recorded the highest number of alerts — 65 for the Revenue Council, 20 for the Municipal Corporation, and several from departments including Health, Sports, and Police. Udham Singh Nagar and Nainital followed with 58 and 5 alerts respectively.
