A 46-year-old pilgrim from East Delhi died on the Yamunotri footpath during the ongoing Char Dham Yatra 2025, marking the sixth fatality on the route within a month.
The deceased, identified as Shiv Kumar, son of Dharamveer Singh, collapsed while walking along the Jankichatti-Yamunotri trail, reported Amar Ujala.
According to Dr. Hardev Singh Panwar, in-charge of the Primary Health Center at Jankichatti, Kumar was brought in unconscious by his family, police, and State Disaster Response Force personnel. Despite efforts, doctors declared him dead on arrival, Dr. Panwar confirmed.
The Yamunotri trek, known for its steep gradient and thin oxygen levels, poses significant strain on the cardiovascular system, especially for unacclimatized or medically unfit individuals. Medical officials have repeatedly emphasized the need for pre-yatra health screenings and gradual acclimatization.
Authorities have increased the number of first-aid stations and medical personnel at critical points on the route.
District officials have urged all yatris, especially those with hypertension, heart conditions, or respiratory issues, to undergo a mandatory health check before commencing the trek.
