Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday called for a united, long-term commitment toward environmental protection, urging citizens to actively participate in campaigns aimed at restoring ecological balance. The appeal came as the state marked World Environment Day with awareness drives and plantation efforts.
Describing environmental conservation as a way of life in Uttarakhand, Dhami highlighted the state’s traditional connection with nature. He pointed to festivals like Harela as proof of the visionary mindset of Uttarakhand’s ancestors, who embedded sustainability into local culture. People of Uttarakhand have always played a leading role in protecting the environment, Dhami said, according to ANI.
The chief minister emphasized that protecting the state’s rich forest wealth, rivers, and biodiversity is a shared responsibility. It’s not just a government obligation — public representatives, voluntary groups, and common citizens must work together to raise awareness and act, he said.
Reinforcing the state’s role as a “flag bearer of environmental conservation,” Dhami urged residents to participate in statewide campaigns such as ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ and a plastic-free Uttarakhand drive. He also stressed the importance of river and water source cleanliness, linking it directly with sustainable living.
He added that integrated planning is needed to address challenges linked to land, forest, and water, especially in the face of climate change and global warming. Only through social awareness and collective action can we face these challenges effectively, he said.
