Pushkar Singh Dhami Says ‘India Gives Health Mantra To World In Form Of Yoga’: Over 1,000 To Join Grand Yoga Day Celebration In Chamoli

Uttarakhand will host the state-level International Yoga Day celebrations on June 21 at the Bhararisain Assembly Complex in Chamoli district, with ambassadors from 10 countries set to join Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami at the event. The 11th edition of International Yoga Day (IDY) is expected to see large-scale participation across the state, according to health officials.

“India has given the mantra of health and wellness to the world in the form of yoga,” CM Dhami said on Tuesday, reiterating the state’s commitment to promoting traditional wellness practices, reported ANI.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative in launching IDY in 2015 has transformed yoga into a global movement, he added.

More than 1,000 participants will gather in Bhararisain for the main event, Director of Ayurvedic and Unani Services Dr. Vijay Kumar Jogdande said. Dignitaries, including the foreign envoys, are scheduled to arrive by June 20, a day before the celebration. The event will showcase yoga’s role in holistic health and preventive care, aligning with national goals under the AYUSH Ministry.

This comes as PM Modi, during the 122nd episode of Mann Ki Baat, called upon citizens to creatively mark Yoga Day. “The zeal and enthusiasm among people all over the world with regard to Yoga Day is amply visible,” he said, encouraging innovative formats such as yoga chains and sessions at iconic locations.

Uttarakhand, which recently approved its first state Yoga Policy, is intensifying efforts to integrate yoga into public life. Under the policy, yoga hubs will be developed, and instructors incentivized to expand outreach, particularly in hilly regions.

Officials say the June 21 event underscores Uttarakhand’s growing role in India’s wellness diplomacy and its long-standing cultural link to yoga’s origins.
