A joint inspection team has identified 17 trees near Tiger Falls in Chakrata that pose a serious risk to tourists following a fatal accident in March.
The trees, spread around the popular waterfall site, will be cut down in the coming weeks to enhance visitor safety, officials said Monday, reported Amar Ujala.
The inspection was carried out by a team comprising officials from the Revenue, Police, Forest Department, and the Tiger Fall Development Committee. The visit followed a tragic incident on March 26, when a large tree collapsed onto tourists bathing at the waterfall, killing a woman from Delhi’s Shahdara and a local man on the spot.
The joint team surveyed the accident site and nearby civil wasteland, marking 17 trees of various species deemed structurally weak and prone to falling.
Tiger Fall Development Committee Chairman Arjun Singh Chauhan urged authorities to expedite all safety-related measures, noting the area’s popularity among domestic and interstate visitors.
During her journey to the site, Nautiyal’s vehicle overturned near Koruwa village after the driver lost control. While the vehicle landed on the mountain side of the road, all passengers, including Nautiyal and her staff, escaped unhurt and later reached the site in another vehicle.
The Forest Department is expected to initiate the felling process after final approval.
