Kavad Yatra 2025: Uttarakhand Bans Loudspeakers, Tightens Security Ahead of July 11 Start

With the month of Sawan approaching, preparations are in full swing for the annual Kavad Yatra , set to begin on July 11 and continue till July 23. The pilgrimage, in which barefoot devotees carry Ganga water to offer to Lord Shiva, will pass through several key routes in Dehradun, attracting thousands from neighboring states, including Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh.

To ensure safety and order, Uttarakhand Police has announced a series of strict measures. Loudspeakers used by Kavad carriers have been banned this year, and law enforcement will closely monitor for any disturbances. IG Garhwal Rajeev Swaroop said that a dedicated traffic management plan is being drawn up to streamline movement through Dehradun’s ISBT and Shimla Bypass Road, reported News 18.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has personally reviewed preparations in Haridwar, issuing directives to ensure seamless logistics. Authorities have been instructed to complete arrangements related to traffic flow, emergency services, sanitation, electricity, water, and medical aid before the yatra begins.

Food safety is also a top priority this year. All eateries along the yatra route must obtain a valid license and clearly display the owner’s name. Devotees must get pure food, and we are making it mandatory for dhaba and restaurant operators to comply, said Swaroop.

The municipal corporation is working in tandem with law enforcement to provide basic amenities like toilets and parking spaces. Police forces will be deployed strategically across the route to maintain law and order and assist pilgrims throughout their spiritual journey.
