Preparations are underway for the grand inauguration of the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi expected to inaugurate the project by the end of July. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has accelerated work to meet the proposed timeline, as confirmed by senior officials.
The expressway, built under the Bharatmala project, aims to significantly reduce travel time between the national capital and Uttarakhand’s capital. Once operational, the 210-kilometer high-speed corridor will allow commuters to cover the Delhi-Dehradun distance in approximately two and a half to three hours, bypassing heavy traffic bottlenecks that currently prolong the journey, Navbharat Times reported.
NHAI Chairman Santosh Kumar Yadav recently inspected the entire route, traveling by road from Akshardham in Delhi to Dehradun to personally review construction progress. During the site visit, Yadav instructed the involved agencies to complete the remaining work within a month, ensuring that the expressway is ready for inauguration on schedule.
Initially, authorities had planned to open the expressway at the start of the Char Dham Yatra season. However, incomplete construction work delayed the launch. Now, officials are confident that all pending tasks will be wrapped up by July’s end, allowing public access soon after.
The Delhi-Dehradun Expressway is expected to boost tourism across major Uttarakhand destinations like Mussoorie, Rishikesh, and Haridwar, while also enhancing connectivity between Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Uttarakhand. As one of India’s key infrastructure projects, the expressway is designed for uninterrupted, high-speed traffic, providing a much-needed lifeline for regional travel and economic development.
