Heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds brought much-needed relief from the heat in Dehradun on Sunday morning, while triggering waterlogging in several urban areas. According to the Uttarakhand Meteorological Department, showers are expected to continue across parts of the state in the coming days.
The sudden downpour led to water accumulation on city roads, causing minor disruptions. While Mussoorie and Tehri experienced cloudy skies and a drop in temperature, significant rainfall was largely confined to Dehradun and a few neighboring districts, reported ETV Bharat.
The Meteorological Department had earlier forecast a shift in weather patterns starting Sunday, predicting rainfall in parts of the state for at least a week. Officials said this change is in line with pre-monsoon activity, as the southwest monsoon is yet to officially arrive in Uttarakhand.
A yellow alert has been issued for many districts. The department warned of heavy rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning across mountainous districts in the Kumaon region, including Nainital, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, Champawat, Chamoli, and Rudraprayag. Strong gusty winds ranging between 40-50 km/h may also impact the region.
While this spell has brought temporary relief from rising temperatures, authorities have urged residents to stay alert due to the possibility of localized flooding, landslides in hilly regions, and traffic disruptions.
