Deadly Landslide Hits Uttarakhand Pilgrimage Route — Rescue Ops Resume

A deadly landslide struck the Yamunotri trek route near Kainchi Bhairav Mandir on Sunday, hitting five pilgrims returning from the shrine. Rescue operations resumed at 9 a.m. on Monday as search teams continued to look for two missing individuals.

Disaster Management officials confirmed that one pilgrim, identified as Rasik from Mumbai, was rescued in an injured condition and is receiving treatment at a public health centre in Jankichatti, where his condition is reported as stable, reported Deccan Herald.

Two mutilated bodies were recovered late Monday night. The deceased were identified as Harishankar (47) from Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, and his 8-year-old daughter, Khyati.

Authorities have identified the missing as Bhavika Sharma (11) from Delhi and Kamlesh Jethwa (35) from Mumbai.

According to Rasik, the group was descending from Yamunotri Dham when boulders and debris suddenly tumbled down the hillside.

District Magistrate Prashant Arya has directed officials to provide all necessary assistance to the victims’ families and will visit the incident site to assess the situation.

The Yamunotri trek is one of the Char Dham pilgrimage routes in Uttarakhand, known for its challenging terrain and vulnerability to landslides, especially during the monsoon.

Rescue teams remain on high alert as they continue combing through the rubble in hopes of finding the two remaining pilgrims.
